A Little Tip:
If you're going to build journal skins for the community to use, don't put your images on photobucket, then get the "bandwidth exceeded" thingie...it makes the journal skins look like :shithappens:

Celebrating this Weekend
My hubby and I celebrate the first 12 years of our matrimonial life together this sunday.
Twelve years since we were married.  September 27th, 1997....   So strange - on the one hand it feels like just yesterday, but on the other hand, I feel like I know no life before him.

There is an amazing event happening in my city called ArtPrize.  I can't really tell you much about it except that over 1200 artists are competing, and that our entire downtown area is covered in artwork!  It is absolutely amazing what this event has done for our city!  The people are out, enjoying our city, enjoying the art.... it's beautiful!

Hubby and I have decided that for our anniversary, we were going to go downtown and explore the artwork!  We had a blast, and ended up walking around for about 4 and a half hours taking photos and checking out all the entries.  I'm posting some ArtPr

HI there!  I devised a new way to feature my friends today, and I'm going to test it out.

I'm going to do what I'm calling a "speed feature" - what this means is that I'm opening up slots for my fellow deviants to be featured in a journal article, and possibly a news article as well.

Here's the catch:  You only have the next four hours to comment this journal with the link to the deviation you'd like featured.  This Speed Feature will end at 2 pm, Eastern Daylight Time, today, March 14th.

So, I was going to renew my premium membership for 3 months, because I couldn't afford to do more right now with my budget....

Sooooo...........  I get to the renewal page, put in my information, and as I am clicking "submit", I realize that I just renewed for a year.

Hi everyone!  Sorry I've been sort of "off the grid" lately... my husband and I bought a new place and are in the process of sorting and packing 16 years worth of accumulated crap to prepare for the move into the new place at month's end.

We are looking very forward to it, but I miss all of you here on :devart:!  

I hope for things to return to (somewhat) normal as soon as possible!

..or maybe I should have titled it "how to pack after living in the same place for 16 years."

I've got so much.... stuff!

I've been going room to room with a "keep" box, a trash bag, a recycle box, and a "donate" box.... the trash bag & recycle box are winning.

It feels really good to pare down my belongings after such a long time of collecting and keeping.  I'm the type that can't get rid of things because someone I know may need it some day.  Well, now I'm trying to break myself of this behavior and "live lighter" so to speak.  (If only I could get Hubby to jump on my bandwagon... he's a total pack rat


04/09/11--05:18: Uninspired... what to do? (chan 2059721)




Do you ever feel uninspired?  What do you do to pull yourself out of it?  I've felt this way since our best friend passed away in a car wreck on March 21.  I can't seem to see the beauty in anything anymore.... and I'm worried that I never will again.

We were supposed to be moving into our new place when we got the call.  Things got put on hold regarding the move so that we could help plan his funeral service.  We got all of those particulars taken care of, finished our move, and here I am, feeling as lost as ever.  I can't really liken it to anything except swirling around in a g

My grandfather passed away Thursday morning.  I've now lost him, and also my best friend within the last two months.  I almost feel like since the death of my friend was so sudden and tragic, that  I don't have much left in me to grieve with.  My grandfather was 91 and lived a full, extremely active life, so I'm not heartbroken, but I am sad.  I know he had a good long run; longer than most, in fact.  I will miss him, but I have nothing to be upset about... he was 91 for crying out loud...

My 5th deviantART anniversary came and went on June 3.  Woo-hoo, congrats to me!  :D  Need to make a new ID.

Next friday, my husband gets to have his port-o-cath removed!  This is a milestone in his fight with Hodgkins Lymphoma.... and I'm so pleased to be able t


06/17/11--03:00: update on stuff... (chan 2059721)




My hubby got his port removed yesterday, and all went extremely well.  The nurses were intrigued because they don't even use the same kind of port anymore, so they were in effect, seeing an obsolete dinosaur of medical technology.  They were astonished that he had it in for eight years.  He is home and healing nicely, in good spirits.

Thanks to all of you who sent us good wishes; it's nice to know that you are out there still taking an interest.  Love to you!

Tomorrow is my birthday and I purchased a "birthday treat" of sorts for myself... a Nikon P500 (yes, *gasp* this Canon girl is checking out the other side...)  I haven't had a lot of time to experiment and get comfortable with it yet, but hopefully very soon.  Here's also to hoping that this new equipment snaps me out of the creative doldrums I've been experiencing as of late. :pray:

So, I think I've officially freaked out.  I went on a spending spree and purchased a bunch of items that I'd wanted for a while, including the new monitor and the Nikon P500 that I'd mentioned in earlier posts.  I'm extremely happy with my acquisitions, but I found that I'm still quite a bit apprehensive about taking the Nikon everywhere with me.  It's a much bigger camera than I'm used to, and I'm frightened that something might happen to it, considering how much I paid for it... maybe I'm being paranoid.... so be it.  I'm sure that feeling will wear off once the newness fades, but in the meantime, my

I've grown irritated with this summer.  I've been so busy that I haven't had much time at all to go take photos.  For those of you who know me, taking photos is the highlight of my summer.  Now, August is nearly over, and I feel like I am missing out on photographic opportunities at every turn.  Grrrr!
